Sister to Sister connects women who are divorced to a network of Sisters through events and other networking opportunities. The women form social connections to women that become part of their support system.
Advocates
A neutral sounding-board, an empathetic ear and a willingness to help can serve as an invaluable source of practical assistance and emotional support. An Advocate is a friend or confidante who truly understands the struggles of single motherhood, minus the blame and stigmatization. Our volunteers range in age, background and style. Our Volunteer Coordinator, together with Volunteer Captains, pair each woman with someone on whom she can depend.
Divorce can be a confusing time for a child. With friends who cannot relate and challenges that are uniquely theirs, many children struggle socially and scholastically within the single-parent framework.
Through events, both Zoom and in person, children are able to connect with other children with similar struggles. Gift certificates for their birthday create another opportunity for special time with their mother.
Sister to Sister works together with schools and other community organizations to connect every child with a suitable mentor and positive role model. Mentorship has been a very proven tool in ensuring a child going through a life-challenge has the support system he/she needs.
If you need someone to advocate with a school or camp, Sister to Sister has volunteers who will work with any school or camp to navigate on your behalf.
Sister to Sister is connected to many social service and community resources. Through the intake process and ongoing conversations, Sister to Sister will ensure every woman is aware and able to access the resources she needs, especially around the Yomim Tovim.
Local get-togethers provide an evening of respite and relaxation and an opportunity to connect with others going through similar experiences.
Educational events include workshops and Zoom sessions that provide inspiration, while addressing needs relevant to the Jewish divorced woman.
Events for mothers and their children throughout the year give children an opportunity to meet and interact with other children growing up in single-parent homes and spend time with their mothers in a fun and relaxed setting.
Dating to get married after a divorce has unique and significant challenges. Sister to Sister strives to help each woman ensure she and her family are prepared for the dating process and is there to support her through the journey.
Sister to Sister has leveraged a network of resources, including dating coaches, who have proven invaluable to many of the women looking to get remarried.
Shabbos and the Jewish holidays are a time of connection, community, and family. Sister to Sister matches women with families who will welcome them and their children into their homes and create a positive Shabbos and Yom Tov experience.
Taking into account each persons individual challenges, our volunteers and partners provide guidance and encouragement to help a woman achieve financial stability.
A single mother has unique financial and employment needs, and we understand that. Sister to Sister provides educational resources and one-on-one support to any woman looking to develop a budget for herself and her family or advance her career.
In addition, Sister to Sister has established relationships with local employment assistance programs.
Going to Beis Din or court can be a very lonely and confusing experience. Our trained Advocates can prepare a woman for what Beis Din and/or court will be like, accompany her to the proceedings, and offer advocacy and guidance. Our goal is to make this challenging experience a bit more comfortable. Sister to Sister does not provide legal services, but does connect women with legal resources, where available.
